After reading Teresa Of Calcutta, I wrote the following essay. Mother Teresa has an amazing story, so I urge you to read the book Teresa Of Calcutta for yourself.
Mother Teresa
Have you decided who’s example you desire to follow? The examples you choose will drastically effect how your life is shaped. To avoid becoming negatively shaped, selecting Godly examples to follow are essential. Teresa, also recognized as Mother Teresa, is someone to carefully consider when selecting such a role-model. By observing Teresa’s strong-spiritedness, love, and humility you will grasp that she was a Christ-like example for you to follow.
Firstly, Teresa possessed a strong spirit. It saw her through ample trials. Faithfully, she aided patients in the most gruesome, hopeless conditions, smiling with kindness as she served them. Through Christ her spirit was supplied with a spiritual conquerer’s strength as in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. If we choose to rely on our loving God as Teresa did for spiritual strength we will become bold to demonstrate His love.
Secondly, Teresa lived in abundant love. Indubitably, she lived out Corinthians 16:14, which reads, “Let all that you do be done in love.” After the Place of the Pure Heart, a home for the dying, opened its doors Teresa began to poor Gods love on the outcasts. For the first time in their lives outcasts felt wanted. Even her enemies where softened when they witnessed her love in action. For example, a young Kali monk fell ill from cholera spending 2 weeks in the Place of the Pure Heart before peacefully dying; when the other monks witnessed the love within the Place of the Pure Heart they turned compassionate towards the sisters and their work (66-67). Their suspicion and abrasive behavior ceased. As in Teresa’s example we too can exhibit God’s love.
Thirdly, Teresa exhibited humility. She redirected praise to He who is responsible for all success. After the achievements of founding 200 dispensaries, 12 homes for 10,000 orphans, 50 clinics to serve 50,000 victims of leprosy, and 23 houses to comfort 3,400 dying destitutes Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize. ‘“Personally, I am unworthy,” Teresa responded. “I accept (this prize) in the name of the poor, because I believe that by giving me the prize the committee is recognizing the presence of the poor in the world.” (152) Not only was Teresa a Mother to 1,100 sisters she was a spiritual mother to all the people she had served. She was respected for her genuine humility. As she humbly proclaimed, “I did nothing, Jesus did it all!” (159) When God begins to work through you, as Teresa did, you can practice humility by giving Him the glory.
You can now concur that because Theresa was strong-spirited, loving, and humble she was a Christ-like role model to follow. With her strong spirit, strengthened by God, Teresa served Him in unfathomably difficult ways. When Teresa shared God’s all-powerful love, hearts were influenced. Humbly, Teresa gave recognition to God for all He accomplished through her. If you choose to imitate Teresa’s christ-like example you will prepared for God to use you.
